Qorlanth is encircled by three gigantic rings of ice and rock, so broad that they wrap the planet like three suspended roads. From the ground they bar the sky from one end of the horizon to the other.

The three rings

The three ice rings of Qorlanth seen from orbit The first ring, Prem, is made of pure ice and shines like a silver thread. The second, Deux-Qorl, carries blocks of rock as large as mountains. The third, Tarn, is dark and dusty: it is the oldest, and no one knows what it is made of.

Life in the rings

Creatures living in the rings of Qorlanth, among the blocks of ice Creatures live within the rings themselves, clinging to the blocks of ice. The qorlim is a great flat animal that unfurls a sail to be carried from block to block. The kressets, small and grey, burrow into the ice and sleep there. On the ground of Qorlanth, by contrast, almost nothing grows: the shadow of the rings brings down night several times a day.
